Popular throughout the year, the island of Lanzarote is easy to reach and offers an excellent transport infrastructure, with many main roads making it easy travel around Lanzarote. Renting a car has long been the preferred method of transport for visitors to Lanzarote, allowing the independence of travelling when and where you want, although Lanzarote's bus network should not be overlooked, being most extensive around the island's capital of Arrecife.

Lanzarote Airport (ACE) can be found close to Arrecife and is the island's main transport hub, with thousands of passengers arriving and departing each day. Lanzarote Airport (ACE) is a relatively small airport and is located just 5 km / 3 miles to the southwest of Arrecife, the island's capital. With a single terminal and mainly European flights each day, Lanzarote Airport has become the eighth busiest airport in the whole of Spain. Often known locally as Arrecife Airport, each year more the five million passengers travel to Lanzarote Airport and the main airlines here include Aerlingus, Air Europa, Britannia Airways, Czech Airlines, Hamburg International, Iberia, Luxair, Spanair, Swiss International Air Lines, and Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium / UK. Ground transport at the airport consists of buses and taxis, which travel to nearby Arrecife and many of Lanzarote's main resorts.

Renting a car is without doubt the best way to travel around Lanzarote, providing the freedom to explore the island. A number of notable car rental agencies are available at Lanzarote Airport (ACE), in nearby Arrecife and at all major resorts, with the main car hire transport companies including Autos Reisen, Avis Auto Rental, Betacar, Felycar, Hertz and Payless. Small cars usually offer the best value for money, with older cars often being extremely cheap, although in general, rental cars on Lanzarote tend to be less expensive than those on the mainland. In Lanzarote, cars always drive on the right-hand side of the road and drivers must be 21 years old or more. Other methods of transport available for rental on Lanzarote include motorcycles, mopeds, scooters and bicycles.

Bus transport on Lanzarote is fairly localised, with the main bus network being centred around Arrecife. Regular buses travel between Arrecife and Lanzarote Airport throughout the week, with a slightly reduced service at the weekends. Buses are a particularly inexpensive way to travel around Lanzarote, with further routes connecting Teguise, the Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen and the Playa Blanca area.

A number of popular ferry services operate from Arrecife, travelling from Lanzarote to neighbouring Canary Islands, including the ports at both Las Palmas on Gran Canaria, and Puerto del Rosario on Fuerteventura. Also, weekly Trasmediterránea ferries travel from Arrecife to Cádiz on mainland Spain's Mediterranean coast.

Taxis are a good means of transport in Lanzarote, with many taxi ranks sited in the main resorts and towns, together with a number of taxis often located outside of large hotels. However, when compared to the price of renting a car in Lanzarote, taxi travel is fairly expensive, although extremely convenient.
