Lanzarote Landmarks and Lanzarote Monuments
(Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain)
Lanzarote offers an eclectic mixture of landmarks and monuments, both natural and manmade. Two of Lanzarote's most famous natural landmarks are El Golfo - a magnificent semi-circular stone crater, and the Mirador Del Rio - which stands next to the Famara Cliff, both of which are known for their outstanding views of the Atlantic Ocean.
A more unique landmark in Lanzarote, the Monumento al Campesino is a striking and contemporary sculpture which dominates the area. Here are Lanzarote's main landmarks and monuments.
Lanzarote Landmarks and Monuments: The Gulf (El Golfo) - El Golfo, Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain
An impressive natural amphitheatre with impressive ocean views, El Golfo was created as the result of volcanic activities in the early 18th century. This spectacular semi-circular crater is partly flooded and the resultant 'green lagoon' lake has become an important, protected nature reserve. A black beach stands nearby, together with the El Golfo village, which is known for its restaurants and historic buildings. El Golfo is one of Lanzarote's most spectacular natural landmarks and stands on the southern side of the island, in the Yaiza area. Bathing in the lake is strictly prohibited.

Standing in front of the island's Famara Cliffs, the Mirador Del Rio is a stylish building, designed by famous local artist César Manrique. With a restaurant area, wraparound windows and outside view points, other attractions here include an upper terrace area, a tourist centre and views of the nearby Graciosa island.

One of Lanzarote's most unusual and unique landmarks, the Monumento al Campesino is dedicated to the rural peasant farmers.
